At the MAAT (museum for Art, Architecture, and Technology) these three areas come together in a space that incentives debate, discovery and modern critic thought.
This modern museum was an initiative from the EDP Foundation and has the constant ambition to present national and international exhibitions with the contribution of contemporary artists, architects, and thinkers.
This innovative project, located next to the river in Belém, was created by the by Amanda Levete Architects, one of the national examples of industrial architecture, and Central Tejo, one of the most visited museums in the country. The MAAT Museum grand opening was on the 5th October 2016. In just two years more than 800 thousand visitors which is quite a record.
The Oval Gallery, a thousand square space, is the first room that visitors will see after entering this art museum. This incredible gallery is reserved for large-scale interventions, different from the conventional format of an exhibition.
You can take a walk on the undulating roof of this modern building where you can capture that perfect Instagram moment with the beautiful landscape by the river. This area is accessible to the public 24 hours a day.
Reflecting on major themes and current trends, the program will also present several exhibitions about the EDP Foundation’s Art Collection.
