London-based conceptual artist duo bompas & parr open the exhibtion “Funland: pleasures & perils of the erotic fairground” at the museum of sex in new york with a playful and pleasurable collection of installations. Visitors to the exhibition can enjoy and experience five attractions, designed to stimulate physical, visual and olfactory senses, challenge their strength and agility, and allow them to compete with friends and other patrons.
Indeed, the most wanted interactive experience is the inflatable room filled with giant breasts where visitors can bounce.”Jump for joy” is made up of blown-up busts of various sizes, shapes and colors pinned to the walls and floor.
Then, a second gallery space hosts “Grope Mountain”, a rock climbing wall scattered with body parts and phallic-shaped holds. Those wanting to adventure to the top can scale the expanse of orifices and appendages, lit within a hazy pink and blue space. Set within an intimate area, the immersive series of installations probe the senses, allowing visitors to grope and stroke their way through the entire exhibit.
There’s also the “Tunel of Love” a dimly lit hall of mirrors that leads visitors on their journey to find the “G-Spot” at the end (The G-spot at the send is actually a theremin embedded in a mound of flesh-colored plastic), the “Foreplay Derby,” a game reminiscent of the ones on Coney Island where competitors aim streams of water at a target in order to propel forward a racehorse. Except here, the horses are replaced with gold-painted dildos and a Museum’s café, Play, by working with chef Humberto Gualipa and bartender Jeff Kearns to introduce a series of snacks and intricately titled cocktails, like “Julia Child’s Fan Mail” and “Lady Chatterly’s Bicycle Seat.”
